Atlanta, Dec. 22. Dr. Horce Mann Bond, educator and father of state representative and civil rights leader Julian Bond, died yesterday. He was 82 (sic).
Dr. Bond was well known in the fields of education and sociology, particulary for his research and writings on the American Negro.
Born in Nashville, he was educated at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, the University of Chicago and Temple University.
He began his career in education in 1924 at lanston University in Oklahoma as head of the department of education. He retired last year as professor of education at Atlanta University's School of Education.
During his nearly 50 years as an educator, he served as president of Ft. Valley (Ga.) State College for six years and as president of Lincoln University for 12 years before decoming the dean of the school of education at Atlanta University in 1957.
Dr. Bond published numerous article and books on the life of the Negro in America.
In 1962, he was one of four Americans eleted to the permanent council of the International Congress of Africanists. He was on the advisory editorial staff of the Journal of Negro Education and the President's Committee on Educaiton Beyond High School.
